how it works

If you’ve never worked with a coach before, it can be easy to assume it might be either a bit weird, or a bit bullshit.

Here are some common questions to help make sense of it all. But of course, feel free to get in touch if you have more.

Are you a “life coach”, telling me what to do with my life?

You know more about your life than I do. I’m trained and experienced in identifying patterns of behaviour and asking questions that get to the core of a challenge or situation; then working with you on an action plan to deal with it most effectively, using proven motivational techniques to keep you in check.

Are you qualified to deal with severe mental illness or trauma?

No. I deal with people who are facing challenges in their work, life or relationships, systematically break it down and identify behaviours which may be acting against them, with action-based solution to deal with them. If it seems that a client is dealing with something beyond that, I’ll recommend somebody more qualified.

Is it like therapy?

It might feel therapeutic and is a confidential space, for you to say whatever you need to say. You may learn things about yourself or start to see things differently. But, as per the above, there are certain areas I don’t go into. We may dip into the past if it’s relevant, but this is focused on the present and future, is more dynamic and forward-focused. It combines understanding deeper beliefs, thoughts and emotions, with practical action.

What’s the process?

  1. Contact me to arrange a free intro chat, for us to gauge if we’re a good fit for each other.

  2. We schedule a series of one-to-one sessions, lasting roughly an hour each.

  3. During the sessions, we’ll discuss whatever challenges you’re coming with, where you’re finding difficulties and what you’d like to focus on.

  4. The aim of each session is to get to the root of that challenge; to explore not just what needs to be done, but what might be stopping you from doing it. This may remain surface-level and practical; or will require us to go a little deeper in the psychology behind it.

  5. Sessions will end with some practical takeaways and actions, for you to apply afterwards.

How many sessions, how often and how long does it last?

Each session is roughly an hour, while the frequency and duration of a programme can vary for each person and situation. Most are usually 4-to-6 sessions, over 2-to-3 months, every week or fortnight.

Where does it take place?

I have clients in many different locations, for which Skype or video call works perfectly fine. In some instances we may meet in person, particularly when working with businesses.

How much does it cost?

Prices can rage between £60 and £150 per session, depending on the situation and number of sessions booked. So it’s best we talk and we can work it out from there.
